  • Course Description

    This course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills required to administer analgesics to provide pain management as part of a medically supervised first responder organisation. Personnel from emergency services, volunteer organisations or organisations that provide a medically supervised first aid service often require this unit. 


    It includes identifying the need for analgesia; accessing, preparing and administering restricted pain relief such as aspirin, ibuprofen, paracetamol, methoxyflurane (commonly referred to as the "green whistle") and Entonox to medically endorsed protocols; performing casualty handovers and completing analgesic use requirements including a Drug Register.his course is designed for people who may come into contact with sharps and cytotoxic and/ or infectious waste as part of their role. This includes but is not limited to medical and homecare, construction, demolition, cleaning, grounds maintenance, public transport, accident scenes, and many other job roles and industries.

  • Entry Requirements

    An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:


    • Hold the pre-requisite unit HLTAD011 Provide First Aid
    • Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills
    • Language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and interpret policy, procedural and legislative documents
    • Oral and written communication skills to clarify/follow instructions and complete report documentation
    • Online study:  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies. Attendees must have completed their own online pre-course work (if applicable) prior to attending the face-to-face training day. If any applicant has not completed the online pre-course work, they will be unable to attend the session. This may incur further charges or cancellation fees.
    • ID is required 
    • A Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. This is required prior to enrolments being processed. To obtain a USI number, please go to www.usi.gov.au to register.
  • Course Schedule

    Step 1: Enhanced Online Learning - Completed at your own pace, prior to the face-to-face training sessions. 


    Step 2: Face-to-face training and assessment (minimum duration 1 hour) 

  • Assessment

    Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.


    Practical scenarios: 


    • Two (2) pain management and handover to paramedics scenarios (Options include: Aspirin, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Methoxyflurane or Entonox)

    Documentation: 


    • Drug register log
    • First aid incident report form

    Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
